New Progress, August 2007

Vania is now a First-Grade student at Pueblo Del Sol Elementary School. Recently, she has taken a STAR Reading(R) computer-adaptive reading test. The test result shows that Vania reads at a level greater than 90% of her same-grade peers nationally.

Vania's comment: Never do miracles for Satan. Jesus promises more miracles.

Book Reading: Put Me in the Zoo

by Robert Lopshire.

Vania's comment: It is about an animal who wants to be in the zoo. At the beginning he was not in zoo. The end is that finally he was put at a circus.

Book Reading: Try, Try Again

Winnie the Pooh. Series 3/18.

Vania's comment: At the beginning Pooh didn't know how to write his name. At the end Pooh knew how to write his name. Pooh kept on trying and never gave up. I never, never give up trying to read.

Book Reading: Miss Polly's Animal School

Vania's comment: This book is about TV show and animal school. The part I love the best is the last page when everybody clapped for Biff.

Dad's words: This is a wonderful book that teaches children how to read names.

Vania's comment: This book is about teeth. We should not chew off bottle's top by our teeth.

Vania's comment: The story I love the best is Birthday Soup.

Book Reading: Edwina

by Mo Willems.

Vania's comment: The part I like the best is when Hoobie-Doobie didn't care either.

Book Reading: Lunch Boxes

written by Fred Ehrlich, illustrated by Martha Gradisher.

Vania's comment: This book tells us the thing we should NOT do when eating. For example:

*** We should not put cookie in your noses.

*** Don't put peanut in your hair.

*** Don't throw sandwiches to your mom's head.

*** Don't throw eggs on the floor.

*** Don't spill your milk and drink it on the floor.

*** Don't seat on your food.

*** Don't put hotdogs in your juice.

Book Reading: Hop on Pop

by Dr. Seuss.

Vania's comment: This is a rhyme book. I like all the characters in the book.

Book Reading: Can You Tell Me How to Get to SESAME STREET?

by Eleanor Hudson, illustrated by Joe Mathieu.

Vania's comment: Elmo wanted to go back SESAME street. He was taken away by a kite.

Journal 6-16-07

Vania and her Dad and Mom visited the Biosphere 2, a magnificent building that was used to test if and how people could live and work in a closed biosphere.

The trip was wonderful and full of fun. Vania was excited to watch many plants and animals. Moreover, hiking is fun! Vania liked hiking very much. Here is a picture of Vania and Mom.

Book Reading: Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark Illustrated by Peter Spier. A Caldecott Medal book.

Vania's comment: Noah built an ark. He let all the animals in and saved them from the flood. Few people obeyed God. I like the rainbow when the flood was over because it is built by God.

Dad's comment: The illustration of this book is fantastic.

Book Reading: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

by Eric Carle.

Vania's comment: I like this book. The part I like the best is when the caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly.

Mom's comment: I like this part the best too.

Dad's comment: What I like the best is at the Saturday, when the caterpillar ate too much and got stomachache. (Everybody laughed.)

Final assessment: This is an amazing book. It is breathtaking. In my opinion, every child should have one copy of this book. The Joyfulness of reading can be inherited.

Book Reading: OLIVIA forms a band

by Ian Falconer.

Vania's comment: This book talks about a band, one person's band by Olivia. The part I like the best in this book is when fireworks started. They were beautiful.

Dad asked: what have you learned then?

Vania: Don't put make-up on your face when you are a little girl. It looks ugly. (GeeGee ... Vania laughed.)

Vania's comment: you should try anything. Some food you don't like, some food you do like. I tried green eggs and ham, but I don't like them.

Book reading: Where the Wild Things Are

Vania's comment: My favorite is that at the end of the story Max returned back home and his supper was hot and still waiting for him. The story is about a place where all wild things are. I learned that don't be wild.

Vania's comment: This book tells what NOT to do when reading a book.

Dad: Don't you think David is cute?

Vania: (think a while) I do not like David.

Book reading: A Tree is Nice

Written by Janice May Udry and illustrated by Marc Simont.

Vania's comment: I like the last page when everyone goes back home to plan their tree. This is a book about trees and it says a tree is nice.

Vania's comment: good and happy book. The part I like best is the dog party. I like this book. This book is special. This book is special because it was bought by Dad, and Dad is special to me.
